Sapele Dining Room Table

Ever since I started dabbling in woodworking it was a dream of mine, much prompted by my wife – mind you, to make a statement piece, a dining room table.

I started a few years back with cutting boards, then benches, picture frames, coffee tables, vanities and tons of lil speciality items along the way. That entire time in the back of my head was this project, this dining room table. Now that it’s done I can say that it’s not the most complex thing I have ever made, but I can say it’s the heaviest 🙂 The table top is nearly 2 inches thick, the legs are thick, 3 inches squared, the expansion slides are solid maple and can be extended to handle, 4- 15 inch leaves (which would not actually fit in our current dining room) the finish is a special wax that takes a week to setup and its smooth to the touch. I could show you a ton of build photos, from milling, to tapering, to assembly, but in the end I most excited to show you these two images:
